Practitioner training, mentoring, and support in Early Learning Programme quality
The Thrive by Five Index confirms findings from other South African studies that the amount of time a child spends at Early Learning Programmes (ELPs) will influence learning outcomes. The single most important influencing characteristic of ELPs is the quality of engagement between practitioner and child.
Child outcomes in ELPs are therefore dependent on a trained and motivated ELP Practitioner workforce.
This Action Brief, written on behalf of the National Early Childhood Development Alliance by Dr. Monica Stach and Puleng Motsoeneng, explores specific actions that can be taken in South Africa to improve the quality of training and support offered to ECP practitioners.
