The South Africa Thrive by Five Index produces indicators on key child outcomes – Early Learning, Social and Emotional Functioning and Physical Growth – for 4-year-old children in South Africa, to assess and track child performance nationally.
The Technical Report describes the key features of the 2024 Index study to ensure transparency, help guide analysis and allow for lessons to be shared. The findings from the 2024 Index are presented separately in the main report

Unlocking Data for Change
To encourage broad engagement and ensure the data drives real change, the full 2024 Index dataset will be made open access by the end of 2025. This means policymakers, researchers, practitioners, and communities will be able to access, explore, and apply the findings to shape better outcomes for young children across South Africa.
