Webinar: Early data access opportunity for Thrive by Five 2024 research papers

Researchers are invited to a data webinar discussing opportunities for early data access and partnership on a series of Thrive by Five Index 2024 working papers.

Wednesday 25 September 2024 | 15h00-16h30 SAST | Registration link

The 2024 Index will include a nationally and provincially representative sample of over 5,000 4-year old children enrolled in 1,300 ELPs in all of South Africa’s 9 provinces. The study also includes a test sample of around 500 children not enrolled in ELPs in 3 provinces. Read more about the research parameters here.

Data collection is taking place between September and November 2024 and a clean dataset ready for early access is expected in the first quarter of 2025. The data will be time-stamped and geo-located enabling merging with existing datasets based on geolocation.

The data webinar will share more information on the forthcoming dataset, and will provide opportunities for Q&A on key topics of interest. The Thrive by Five 2024 team will also outline the details of the proposed partnership agreements as well as the support and remuneration being offered.

Following the webinar, interested parties will have the opportunity to submit brief motivation for topics of interest, including how the proposed analysis will contribute to the existing research base. A panel will review these submissions and contracting for the working paper series will be concluded by year end. The Index team anticipates partnering with between 10 and 20 research teams.

This rich dataset generated by the Thrive by Five Index 2024 is an opportunity to better understand the factors that enable or inhibit healthy development in young children, so as to inform evidence-based change in South Africa and beyond. By providing early access to this dataset, we hope to fast track this process and to generate broader interest in anticipation of the dataset being made open access (within 12 months of the study completion).
