While access to early learning has grown, too many children are still being left behind, underscoring the need for coordinated action to expand both access and quality, so that every child has the opportunity to benefit.
South Africa has around 1.2 million four-year-olds, many facing poverty that impacts early development. While 60% are enrolled in early learning programmes, 30% still lack access. Expanding quality early education is essential to reducing developmental disparities and supporting long-term growth.
